Expand Networks Demos Virtual Accelerator and Mobile Accelerator Client
By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor
Expand Networks, a supplier of WAN optimization products to the US Government and Military agencies, is exhibiting and demonstrating new innovations in acceleration techniques for US Air Force communications at AFITC 2009 this week.
Armed forces are increasingly desirous of enhancing the delivery of network services. In such cases optimization techniques have been found to be suitable for the provision of distributed services in tactical environments over low bandwidth and high latency links.
The mobile data centers are employed in national security communications programs conducted in the air, at sea and on land and it serves to increase network throughput, speed and application responsiveness across multiple classified and unclassified communications networks. This brings real-time network services closer to the battle ground enabling faster decision-making and operations.
In a release the company said that more than 11,000 Expand Networks (News - Alert) Accelerators have been deployed across the US government and all branches of the US Military. These accelerators are used in US Joint Forces C-17 cargo aircraft for mobile, tactical mission as part of the J-EMPRS project. It is also deployed in the US Air Force airborne battle management, command and control, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance platform and Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS).
The innovative techniques provided by Expand Network have helped increase bandwidth utilization and link reliability.
Stu Schreiber, Joint STARS BLOS program manager, said, “Expand has been an excellent partner in bringing true airborne networking to Joint STARS.”
Howard Teicher, vice president for public sector and satellite markets said, “Operating enterprise-class applications over low bandwidth-high latency satellite links demands a dynamic, robust WAN Optimization capability to satisfy all network performance requirements.”
Expand’s flexible deployment options, including virtual appliances running on commodity hardware, and client software for individual workstations, provide the Air force with an efficient optimization capability for every battlespace environment, he added.
The company’s technology offers both flexibility and scalability to deliver the holistic communication and application performance from the enterprise base to the entire battlespace. Expand Networks provides the most reliable and dynamic WAN Optimization technology which includes virtual appliances running on commodity hardware, a major requisite in Air Force deployments.
Expand Networks sources said that the company will be demonstrating its Virtual Accelerator and Mobile Accelerator Client at AFITC 2009 this week in Montgomery, Ala.
