Taqua 7000 to Replace Legacy Switches at Two Telephone Companies

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Next-generation switching systems and applications player Taqua has expanded its customer roster by two with LaWard Telephone Company and Middle Point Telephone recently opting for the Taqua (News - Alert) 7000 Switching System to replace their legacy Siemens DCO switches.

According to Nick Strauss, plant manager for LaWard Telephone Company, the decision to switch to the Taqua 7000 switching system was based on the advantages of the flexibility of its switch-on-a-card architecture that allows the company to perform a range of options from TDM, IP and cellular switching.

“We plan to immediately cut-over and replace the Siemens (News - Alert) DCO with the Taqua 7000 for our land-line services, but in the future we would like to integrate the same system into our cellular network and that is easily done by simply sliding in a mobile interface card in the same compact chassis,” said Strauss.

LaWard serves approximately 3,500 customers across South Texas and provides residential and business telecommunications needs.

Taqua’s solutions are deployed by wireline, cable and wireless carriers as next-generation end-office exchanges.

The Texas-based company,  a supplier of next-generation solutions exclusively focused on small and medium sized wireline and wireless carriers, will show off its goods when it exhibits at TMC's (News - Alert) ITEXPO from Sept. 1 to Sept. 3 in the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The event is slated to provide an overall educational program that teaches resellers, enterprises, SMBs, and Government Agencies how to select IP-based voice, video, fax, and unified communications to purchase or resell.

Of course, featured among its line at ITEXPO (News - Alert) is the same Taqua 7000 that the Middle Point Telephone Company recently selected.

“Taqua’s solution was by far the most cost-effective choice for our network, but we never make any decision based on cost alone,” said Kent Hughes, plant manager at Middle Point.

The T7000 is a Class 5 switch replacement and has replaced many brand and vintage of Class 5 switch in North America. The T7000 is based on a patented “switch-on-a-card” design, in which all the functions of a Class 5 switch or IP gateway are performed on a single circuit pack, according to the company.

“We evaluated two other systems and did a lot of due diligence on each company and their customer support reputation,” said Hughes. We spoke to several customers from all the potential suppliers. After our evaluation, we presented the findings to our board and when it was all said in done, we were most comfortable with Taqua as a company and solution.”

The design is meant to help decrease deployment costs and the ability to expand with TDM, IP, or wireless services on a “pay as you go basis.”

Taqua will be exhibiting in booth #428 at the ITEXPO.
