Verizon Wireless Data Traffic Doubles Every Year
By Gary Kim, Contributing Editor
Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless now is experiencing a doubling of data traffic every year, Verizon Communications Chairman Ivan Seidenberg said. In about four to five years, Seidenberg estimates that video will account for more than 60 percent in data growth on its mobile network.
Video will be a big driver for Verizon's terrestrial network as well. As the Internet evolves from a text to a visual-based medium, Verizon predicts that video will account for 75 percent of its Internet traffic in the next five years.
Globally, Verizon sees its IP traffic growing 40 percent a year.
