Ixia, a Calabasas, Calif.-based IP performance test systems provider has reportedly announced the results of the performance testing of MX 3D Universal Edge Router from Juniper Networks (News - Alert).

 

The test was conducted by the European Advanced Network Test Center using Ixia (News - Alert)`s IxNetwork solution. The Juniper MX 3D router fulfills the enterprise and service provider requirements for more flexible technology and business models.

 

Powered by the ViperCore technology, IxNetwork validated the high port density, throughput, and scalability of MX Series 3D router. It also tested the router’s ability to provide high-bandwidth services at peak traffic volumes. The MX480 3D accurately processed an unparalleled 1.4 terabits per second of traffic using a mix of IPv4 and IPv6 traffic flows in a compact sixth of a rack form factor - exceeding one billion packets per second.

 

In addition, the router demonstrated more than 6,000 active VPLS or L3 VPN service instances, 2.4 million unique VPN routes, and 60,000 multicast groups.

 

"IxNetwork delivered very high traffic levels and protocol emulation that allowed us to benchmark the breakthrough performance of the MX 3D router," said Mehdi Sif, director, technology marketing, at Juniper, in a statement. "IxNetwork allowed us to showcase the MX 3D`s scale across the bandwidth, service and subscriber dimension concurrently and test the largest routing topologies."

 

Ixia`s XM12 chassis, 96 IxYukon 10Gig ports, and IxNetwork version 5.40 were used in the test. Ixia`s technology experts worked closely with EANTC to plan and implement the test process.

 

"We have tested the new line cards for the Juniper MX 3D series routers for large-scale service performance imposed by new media-rich Internet applications," said Carsten Rossenhöevel, EANTC. "Ixia`s IxNetwork software and IxYukon cards allowed us to validate the performance of this next generation solution, matching the scale of the system under test."

 

Ixia has a proven track record in providing converged IP performance test systems and service verification platforms for wireless and wired infrastructures and services.
