Diodes Unveils New Power Switches

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Diodes Incorporated, a provider of application specific products within the broad discrete and analog semiconductor markets, reportedly announced the addition of two new devices, the “AP2101” and “AP2111,” to its “AP21XX” power switch product line, targeted at higher current applications.

Both the new offerings deliver a continuous output current capability up to 2A and have been optimized for use in self-powered and bus-powered universal serial bus and other 3-5V hot- swap applications.  Moreover, the family of devices complies with USB 2.0 and 3.0.

Similar to other devices in the AP21XX family of power switches, both the new devices provide complete protection for any application when subject to heavy capacitive loads. Additionally, both the devices also offer reverse current blocking, over-current, over-temperature and short-circuit protection, as well as controlled rise time and under-voltage lockout functionality.

Available in SO-8 and MSOP-8L-EP green packages, both AP2101 and AP2111 are single channel cost effective form-fit-function integrated high-side power switches that offer current and thermal limiting in addition to other protective features of the family.

The new power switches prevent unnecessary system shutdown or restart, due to the fact that they are characterized by a faster transient response time of just 5µs.

Certified by IEC (News - Alert) 60950-1 CB Scheme and UL recognized, both the new power switches ensure public safety as well as improve product quality. In addition, the power switches’ automatic output discharge function provide controlled discharge of output voltage stored on the output capacitor.
