Data Center Deployments Drive Ethernet Switch Market Growth: Report
By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor
A report by Dell' Oro Group , a market research company for networking and telecommunications industries, reportedly found that the Ethernet Switch market grew for the second consecutive quarter during the third quarter of this year. This was achieved by data center deployments.
“Since early 2008, many new product introductions have focused on the data center and many of these products ramped strongly during the most recent quarter,” Alan Weckel, director of Ethernet switch market research at Dell' (News - Alert)Oro Group, said in a statement. “The 10 Gigabit Ethernet is leading the charge, both as a server connectivity technology and as an aggregation technology within the data center. In the short term, most of the overall Ethernet Switch market revenue growth will come from the data center.”
The report also said that Fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet revenues grew by 30 percent during the quarter with growth being driven by purpose-built Fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet data center products. Cisco (News - Alert) and HP are ahead with a combined share of almost 70 percent of the total Fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet port shipments. Other vendors with Ethernet Switch offerings are 3Com (News - Alert) /H3C, Arista, Blade, Brocade, Extreme, Force 10 and Juniper.
As the opportunity for Ethernet routers and switches deployments in carrier networks increases, vendors are attempting to meet the carrier requirements by either adding carrier-grade features or Ethernet technologies to existing product lines or building new products solely targeting this market. The Carrier Ethernet report tracks market for these products.
In February, May, August, and November, Dell’Oro Group publishes Carrier Ethernet quarterly reports containing in-depth market-level and detailed vendor market share revenue information on the following markets, Carrier Ethernet Routers and Carrier Ethernet Switches. The company also tracks Carrier Ethernet Router and Switch segments by region, North America, EMEA, Asia-Pacific, and rest of world.
