CloudLinux: Storage Made Simpler, More Crash-Proof for Web Hosts
By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor
Cloud storage is a beautiful things. But if you're relying on a shared server to manage your web site, a simple spike in traffic can derail your network.
That's where CloudLinux comes in. The company, which provides infrastructure-optimization technology to better manage the cloud services provided by web hosts, is only three months old and already boasts five customers. And web traffic grows, along with the need for cloud-based storage, the Princeton, N.J., company is gearing up for even more partnership annoucemnts.
Judy Shapiro, the company's marketing rep, sat down with me Thursday afternoon at Telecom One-on-One, a Jaymie Scotto & Associates Power Networking Event with telecom executives held in New York City's Battery Gardens restaurant in the Financial District.
'So let's say you have a dedicated server. That's maybe ten different applications, which ae cloud-related,' Shapiro explained 'If one application goes haywire, you can manage it at an individual cloud application layer.'
Without a CloudLinux of sorts acting as the middleman, 'if something spikes you're scrambling to manage traffic.'
Managing cloud traffic is a burgeoning business. Today CloudLinux announcd that Parallels, a cloud 'enalement' leader,' has included CloudLinux as one of the Linux OS options in its newly released Parralels Plesk Panel 9.5, and is available for all 9.X versions of the product.
Parallels reportedly chose to include CloudLinux because of its Lightweight Virtual Environment 'LVE' technology, which is designed for web-hosting service providers to provide greater density and stability in shared hosting and multi-tenant environments.
'LVE is a great addition to the Parallels Plexk Panel 9.5 features,' said Igor Seletskiy, CEO and founder of CloudLinux, in a press statement. 'CloudLinux can help Parallels deliver the fully integrated and professional experience their customers hae come to expect from a major virtualizaiton and cloud computing leader.'
