Stick a Fork in MySpace, It's Done

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Someday, when MySpace (News - Alert) gets its own Facebook page, it’ll use for its profile picture, a piece of toast with a fork sticking in it. Because as of now that’s what it is.

MySpace announced something called "sync with Facebook (News - Alert),” according to industry observer Nicholas Carlson, who adds that company officials released a statement saying it, "allows MySpace users, musicians and celebrities around the world to sync their status updates with their Facebook profile or Page, while also offering them the ability to share content such as music, videos, game apps, links and photos with their friends on Facebook."

It's pretty self-explanatory, says CNET, “taking the recently revamped "stream" design of MySpace profiles and plugging in Twitter and Facebook's application program interfaces.

You knew MySpace wasn’t long for this world when they released an odd, creepy video starring that JetBlue flight attendant who got a few months’ publicity out of a meltdown. What, this is the biggest celebrity they could find who still uses a MySpace account?

Evidently the “bands and celebrities” were a large reason for the move, CNET says: “MySpace gained much of its early traction because it was possible for independent musicians to establish a presence and manage a fan base there, something that lost its luster once Facebook's open-ended fan pages started to take off even more successfully than many had speculated.”
